St Kessog's

Stirling Council, as owners of St Kessog’s, is collaborating with a local working group to redevelop the building and share the space with the community.

The plan is to relocate the library from North Church St to the ground floor of St Kessog’s and alongside it set up a new business hub, which will encourage new business start-ups and enable people to work locally and be supported by organizations such as STEP (stepscotland.co.uk).

On the ground floor there will be 8 public toilets plus an accessible toilet/baby change area and in the lobby a wall of information boards and video screens. Community notices and information will be displayed here, and if there is another major incident which knocks out communications, everyone will know that the notice boards at St Kessog’s will be updated.

Taking the lift or stairs to the first floor, there will be an informal meeting area, a small kitchenette for users of the business hub, 3 more meeting rooms and an accessible toilet/baby change facility. The remaining space upstairs will be a large community area - it should be spectacular with original features such as the arches, roof beams and stained glass windows. All the rooms and community area will be bookable by anyone via an on-line booking system.

A new charitable trust will be set up to hold a lease with Stirling Council and the community space will be available to hire, at reasonable rates by anyone for birthday parties, drama/dancing classes, language school etc.

In additional the trust plan to employ an events manager to organize new events for the community to entertain and bring our community together.

A survey will be conducted in the next couple of months to ensure wide consultation and will be publicized nearer the time, so please join in and let us know your views.

The plan is to complete the design and secure funding this year, carry out the redevelopment next year (2023) and open early 2024.
